A cookie is a small text file or message given to a web browser (such as Mozilla's Firefox or Microsoft's Internet Explorer) by a web server. The purpose of cookies is to identify web site users/visitors and store information on the user's computer instead of on the web server. The use of cookies decreases server overhead.
